_______________
Maya and Vanya are a sister duo from Croatia, who have spent half of their life based in New Zealand, where they have been involved with music and spinning records, amongst other things; and have done their thing at various banquets and shindigs..
The pair grew up listening to a wide array of music blasting from their family record player.. from Gypsy Kings and Ladysmith Black Mambazo to The Beatles, Talking Heads and Rolling Stones. Gloria Gaynor to Larry Levan as well as funk and hip hop icons DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Bambaataa.
Their eclectic, fun sets and vast knowledge in music encompassing cross-cultural style, as well as great stage presence have made them become some of the most in-demand young DJs. Having a slightly different music taste from one another, put together they create a unique blend of music to get the dancefloor pumping. With their styles ranging from upfront House, Tech-house, Disco to Nu Funk to the sub genres they are becoming ever so familiar for such as Tropical / Tribal House mixed with Dub and Big Basslines. But their sound is unique and ever evolving..!
Recent winners of a prestigious global DJ competition initiated by some of the biggest players in the industry: Beatport, Pioneer DJ and DJ Mag. A worldwide mix competition held on the music platform LetsMix.com; included over 350,000 votes, 190,000 listeners, over 3,500 global entries, officially the world's biggest DJ talent search to date! Judges included the head of music download site Beatport, editor of DJ Mag, Marketing manager of Pioneer DJ, Ultra Record's David Waxman, Deadmau5's manager Dean Wilson and DJ/Producer Sebastian Ingrosso - who named the girls the ultimate Next Generation DJs.
After winning the competition, they were booked to play at the annual Miami Winter Music Conference, for parties such as the DJ Mag Opening Pool Party, The Beatport Beach party, The Ultra Records Pool Party, the Mad Decent label party, and Set and Mansion Nightclubs in Miami for Sebastian Ingrosso's party, they played alongside acts such as M.A.N.D.Y, Sharam, D.Ramirez, Dennis Ferrer, Steve Lawler, Macy Gray, Swedish House Mafia, Pete Tong, Afrojack, Chris Lake, Riva Starr, DJ Craze, Diplo, Joris Voorn, DJ Sneak to name a few.
Back home, Maya and Vanya have been booked to play at every major club, party and festival across New Zealand, including the likes of Summadayze, DeepHardNFunky, Ministry Of Sound, OneLove, Rhythm N' Vines, Air NZ Fashion Week; as well as more recently across the ditch in Australia at clubs such as Revolver, Eurotrash, The Brown Alley, QBar, WorldBar Sydney, Elsewhere Gold Coast, The Mercat Cross, Wah Wah Lounge, Tonic; They've also held a residency at New Zealand’s hippest venue Cassette9 for over a year now (where they've also been in charge of bringing over and hosting acts from labels such as Mad Decent, Dubsided, Made to Play, Spektrum, Brick Bandits, South Rakkas Crew, Sweat it Out, Ol Head Records, Grindin’, Ghetto Division, Scatterblog and many more).
Currently lining up further international gigs across Europe and more of America; at festivals such as Creamfields UK this summer, and Cream and Pacha in Ibiza.
Look out for their debut EP release as well as various singles and further remixes out in the very near future!
In their spare time, the girls run their very own monthly art and music based party night called The Thursday Night Tea Party, claimed to be one of Auckland City’s best and most popular club nights; as well as 'Akwaaba' in collaboration with Nick Dwyer (New Zealand's most eccentric and well travelled music, TV and radio personality) a party aimed at showcasing exotic tunes from across the globe to the dancefloor, mixing them up to open peoples ears and expand their footwork.
